Banaba Extract

Banaba is the common name of Lagerstroemia speciosa.
Corosolic acid, ellagitannins and gallotannins are the main active constituents of banaba.​

  • Exerts Hypoglycemic Activity

    Banaba showed hypoglycemic activity through suppression of gluconeogenesis and stimulation of glucose oxidation via the pentose phosphate pathway.​

  • Induces Glucose Uptake

    Banaba induces glucose uptake in cells, but, unlike insulin, does not simultaneously up-regulate lipogenesis.​

Mechanism of Actions

  • Enhances cellular uptake of glucose and reduces insulin resistance​
  • Decreases the production of glucose in the liver (gluconeogenesis)​
